A customer had a dirty set of injectors from a well used Yamaha outboard engine. Our service would’ve had him back up and running in a couple of hours. He didn’t want to “mess with trying to fix the old ones” and would rather replace with new since he doesn’t want any issues. He spent the money on replacement fuel injectors, the motor ran better but had new issues. They were removed and brought in for inspection, test. Right out of the box, 3 were leaking while closed, flow was deviant by 20% from injector to injector. We attempted to clean them, no change, there must be some sort of defect in the seats. I’ve seen lousy replacement injectors, but this is the first time I’ve seen a set this bad, they were new.
Afterwards we went ahead and restored his original injectors to new condition, and had him back on the water, engine running like new the same day. Our processes and services work, but people still insist they only want new.
