Has the Traxxas Sledge Been Discontinued?!

Mar 20, 2024 | R/C

This is a speculative article, we have received no official announcement from anyone inside Traxxas.

Article Updates:

If you’re looking to purchase a Sledge, especially at the current price point, we’d recommend doing it now while you can. While trying to place our regular stocking orders with Traxxas, the ability to order Traxxas Sledge trucks in all colors have been removed. There is no ETA on when inventory will become available again, this is the usual indicator of a car or truck no longer being available in the future. It’s highly unlikely that one of Traxxas’s best selling trucks has actually been discontinued and while it seems early given the Sledge’s age and Traxxas’s track record, it may have been pulled for a refreshed or alternative Sledge model coming out.

The X-Maxx was recently pulled from the order system and replaced with the refreshed line of X-Maxx’s which now includes factory belted tires, new color schemes, a new part number and a price increase of $100. We would imagine the Sledge is going through the same thing. We don’t see a lot of possible changes coming in a new version but we can assume it’s as simple as refreshed colors/graphics, belted tires, a new box and an increased price. There is a little room for improvement in the durability of the factory chassis, maybe we’ll get an updated chassis too.

We could also speculate a future alternative version. Traxxas recently released aluminum components for the Sledge, they’ve also released a hardened pinion gear (6483X), hardened spur gear (9652X) and belted Sledgehammer tires in the Sledge size. Given the current path they’ve taken with Slash, Rustler, X-Maxx and XRT, in addition to a mildly refreshed Sledge, could we be getting an Ultimate version? If an Ultimate model was coming out, we could assume an Ultimate version with their own colors and box, aluminum toe and camber links, machined pinion and spur gears, bluetooth module, belted Sledgehammer tires and possible aluminum motor mounts/differential housings. Maybe we’re wrong but if any model deserves to have an Ultimate version, it’s definitely the Sledge.
